Albert Londres, né le 1er novembre 1884 à Vichy, est l'une des figures emblématiques du journalisme français du XXe siècle. Passionné par les voyages et les enquêtes, il devient très tôt reporter, et sa plume incisive et engagée fait de lui l'un des pionniers du journalisme d'investigation. Dès 1903, il intègre le quotidien "Le Petit Parisien" où il couvre les faits divers et les affaires criminelles, se forgeant ainsi une réputation de journaliste intrépide. Cependant, il se rend rapidement compte que la véritable essence du métier réside dans le fait d'aller sur le terrain, d'aller à la rencontre des gens et de raconter leurs histoires. En 1914, Albert Londres s'engage comme volontaire dans l'armée française, et pendant la Première Guerre mondiale, il est correspondant de guerre sur le front. Ses reportages, témoignant de la brutalité et de l'horreur des combats, lui valent une reconnaissance internationale. À la fin de la guerre, il décide de continuer son métier de reporter, se consacrant principalement aux problèmes sociaux et aux questions politiques. Albert Londres parcourt le monde avec son esprit aiguisé et son envie insatiable de vérité. En 1923, il réalise un reportage-choc à Cayenne, en Guyane française, sur les conditions de vie déplorables des prisonniers. Cette enquête a un impact considérable et conduit à une réforme du système carcéral en France. Il se rend également en URSS dans les années 1920 pour découvrir les réalités de la révolution bolchévique. Cette expérience le déçoit profondément, lui faisant prendre conscience des dérives du régime stalinien et de la violation des droits de l'homme. Le journaliste audacieux et perspicace poursuit sa quête de vérité, allant même jusqu'à infiltrer un bagne en Nouvelle-Calédonie pour dénoncer les conditions inhumaines des détenus. Cette expérience lui laisse une marque indélébile et renforce sa détermination à lutter pour la justice sociale. Albert Londres perd la vie tragiquement dans un incendie d'hôtel à Boulogne-sur-Seine le 16 mai 1932. Sa disparition laisse un grand vide dans le monde du journalisme. Son héritage, quant à lui, est incontestable. Il a su créer un journalisme engagé, basé sur l'enquête et la quête de la vérité, et a contribué à la reconnaissance du rôle du journaliste comme "témoin de l'Histoire".
