Anaïs Nin est une écrivaine et diariste française d'origine cubaine, née le 21 février 1903 à Neuilly-sur-Seine, France, et décédée le 14 janvier 1977 à Los Angeles, États-Unis. Elle est surtout connue pour ses journaux intimes, qui font d'elle l'une des premières femmes à avoir exploré la sexualité féminine de manière ouverte et sans tabou. Anaïs Nin est née dans une famille aisée avec des origines cubaines et danoises. Son père, Joaquín Nin, était un compositeur et pianiste cubain, et sa mère, Rosa Culmell, était une chanteuse d'opéra d'origine cubaine et d'ascendance française et danoise. La famille s'installe à New York en 1914, où Anaïs commence à écrire. Elle écrit des nouvelles et des essais, mais c'est surtout à travers son journal intime qu'elle se fait connaître. En 1923, elle épouse Hugh Parker Guiler, un banquier américain, et s'installe à Paris. C'est dans le milieu artistique et littéraire de la capitale française qu'elle rencontre Henry Miller et sa femme, June, qui deviendront ses amants et ses grands amis. Anaïs Nin explore dans ses écrits la complexité des relations humaines, la dualité de l'amour et de la passion, ainsi que les conflits entre l'éthique et le désir. Au fil des années, Anaïs Nin devient une figure centrale de la scène artistique et littéraire de Paris. Elle fréquente des écrivains et des artistes tels que Henry Miller, Antonin Artaud, René Crevel, Salvador Dali et Sylvia Beach. Elle publie ses premiers romans, "Les jeux dangereux" (1936) et "Littérature passionnelle" (1939), qui sont bien reçus par la critique. En 1940, avec le déclenchement de la Seconde Guerre mondiale, elle quitte Paris pour les États-Unis, où elle s'installe à New York. Aux États-Unis, Anaïs Nin continue à écrire et à publier. Elle enseigne également l'écriture créative et donne des conférences. Elle entame une correspondance avec le psychiatre suisse Carl Jung, qui aura une influence significative sur son travail. En 1961, elle publie le premier volume de ses journaux intimes, "Journal of Anaïs Nin, " which are praised by critics for their introspective and honest exploration of her inner self. Elle continue à publier d'autres volumes de son journal jusqu'à sa mort en 1977. Anaïs Nin est aujourd'hui considérée comme l'une des grandes écrivaines du 20ème siècle et une figure pionnière dans l'exploration de la sexualité féminine et des relations personnelles.
