André Gobert, né le 30 septembre 1890 à Paris, était un joueur de tennis français qui a marqué l'histoire de ce sport. Fils d'un tennisman professionnel, il a grandi dans un environnement propice à l'apprentissage et à la pratique du tennis. Dès son plus jeune âge, il a montré un talent exceptionnel et une passion dévorante pour ce sport. Sa carrière a réellement décollé au début du XXe siècle. Entre 1905 et 1914, Gobert a accumulé un impressionnant palmarès. Bénéficiant d'une grande technique, il développait également une puissance physique remarquable qui lui conférait un avantage sur ses adversaires. Sa tactique de jeu était basée sur l'agressivité et le jeu de volée, ce qui lui a valu de nombreuses victoires et l'a porté au sommet. André Gobert a remporté de nombreux tournois et a été classé parmi les meilleurs joueurs mondiaux de son époque. En 1908, il a connu son premier grand succès en remportant le titre de champion de France de tennis en simple. Cette victoire a été suivie de nombreux autres triomphes dans les championnats nationaux français ainsi que dans les tournois internationaux. Sa réputation a également traversé les frontières de la France. En 1912, Gobert a atteint la finale du prestigieux tournoi de Wimbledon, où il s'est incliné face à l'australien Tony Wilding. Cette performance lui a valu une reconnaissance internationale et a contribué à sa notoriété. Cependant, la carrière d'André Gobert a été interrompue par la Première Guerre mondiale. Engagé volontairement, il a été mobilisé en 1914 et a passé quatre longues années au front. Cette période a marqué un tournant dans sa vie et a sans doute influencé son jeu lorsqu'il a repris le tennis après la guerre. Après la fin du conflit, Gobert a tenté de reprendre sa carrière sportive, mais n'a jamais pu retrouver son niveau d'avant-guerre. Malgré cette difficulté, il a continué à jouer et à participer à des tournois, même s'il n'avait plus le même succès qu'auparavant. Après sa retraite sportive, André Gobert s'est consacré à sa famille et à ses nombreux amis. Il a également continué à s'investir dans le monde du tennis, en tant qu'entraîneur et en participant à des compétitions de vétérans. Il est décédé le 6 décembre 1951, laissant derrière lui un héritage important dans le monde du tennis français et international. Son style de jeu agressif et ses performances exceptionnelles restent gravés dans la mémoire des passionnés de ce sport.
