André Masson est l'une des figures majeures du surréalisme, un mouvement artistique qui a émergé au début du XXe siècle. Né en 1896 à Balagny-sur-Thérain, en France, Masson s'est rapidement révélé comme l'un des précurseurs de ce mouvement avant-gardiste qui a cherché à défier les conventions artistiques et littéraires de l'époque. Il utilise différents médiums, tels que la peinture, le dessin, la gravure et la sculpture, pour exprimer ses visions intérieures. Durant les années 1930, Masson est victime d'une grave crise personnelle et cherche refuge dans la psychanalyse. La Deuxième Guerre mondiale éclate alors qu'il se trouve à Paris, et il est contraint de fuir pour échapper à l'occupation allemande. Il se réfugie d'abord dans le sud de la France, puis s'exile aux États-Unis en 1941. Sa vie artistique à New York est marquée par des rencontres avec d'autres artistes de renom, tels que Marcel Duchamp et Jackson Pollock. Après la guerre, André Masson retourne en France et reprend son activité artistique avec ferveur. Il participe à de nombreuses expositions et reçoit plusieurs distinctions, dont le Grand Prix national des Arts en 1976. Sa renommée internationale ne cesse de croître, et ses œuvres sont aujourd'hui présentes dans les collections des plus grands musées du monde. André Masson est décédé en 1987 mais son héritage artistique perdure. Son exploration des profondeurs de l'esprit humain et son utilisation novatrice des techniques surréalistes ont influencé de nombreux artistes contemporains. Son travail incarne le désir de repousser les limites de la créativité, de s'affranchir des conventions et de révéler les mystères de l'inconscient.
