Armand Augustin Louis de Caulaincourt était un homme politique et militaire français du XIXe siècle. Né le 9 décembre 1773 à Caulaincourt, il provenait d'une famille de la noblesse française. Caulaincourt entra très jeune dans l'armée et connut une carrière militaire exceptionnelle. Il commença son service au sein de l'armée royale, mais lors de la Révolution française, il rejoignit les rangs des forces républicaines. Durant cette période tumultueuse, il servit principalement en Italie et en Egypte, participant notamment à la célèbre campagne de Russie. En 1807, il rejoignit les rangs de l'armée de Napoléon Bonaparte et se distingua par son talent militaire et son dévouement à son empereur. Il devint rapidement un membre influent de son entourage, étant nommé général de division et grand écuyer de Napoléon. Caulaincourt participa à de nombreuses batailles, notamment à Austerlitz, Eylau, Friedland et Borodino. En plus de ses exploits militaires, Caulaincourt joua également un rôle diplomatique majeur. Il fut envoyé en mission au Congrès de Tilsit, où il négocia avec succès des traités de paix entre la France et la Russie et la France et la Prusse. Il devint également ambassadeur français en Russie et eut l'occasion de côtoyer les plus grandes figures de l'époque, telles que les Tsars Alexandre Ier et Nicolas Ier. Après la chute de Napoléon en 1814, Caulaincourt soutient brièvement le retour de l'Empereur lors des Cent-Jours, mais réalisa rapidement que la situation était désespérée. Il accompagna Napoléon lors de son exil à l'île d'Elbe, puis fut envoyé en mission diplomatique en Angleterre après la défaite de Waterloo. Par la suite, Caulaincourt se retira de la vie politique et militaire et se consacra à l'écriture. Il publia ses mémoires, dans lesquelles il décrivit en détail ses années au service de Napoléon et les événements historiques auxquels il avait assisté. Ses mémoires sont considérées comme une source précieuse pour comprendre la période napoléonienne. Armand de Caulaincourt décéda le 19 février 1827 à Paris. Sa carrière militaire et diplomatique, ainsi que sa relation étroite avec Napoléon Bonaparte, font de lui une figure importante de l'histoire française du XIXe siècle. Son héritage est rappelé par le nom de la rue Caulaincourt à Paris, qui perpétue son souvenir.
