César Nicolas Louis Leblanc est une célébrité française née le 19 mars 1872 à Lille. Il est connu pour sa contribution majeure dans le domaine de la chimie, en particulier pour son invention révolutionnaire du procédé de production du chlore et de la soude. Leblanc est issu d'une famille modeste et a fait preuve d'une grande intelligence dès son plus jeune âge. Il a été remarqué pour ses talents scientifiques exceptionnels et a rapidement éveillé l'intérêt de ses enseignants et de ses pairs. Suite à ses remarquables résultats scolaires, il a été admis à l'École normale supérieure de Paris où il a poursuivi ses études en chimie. C'est pendant ses années d'études que Leblanc a développé son intérêt pour la chimie industrielle. Il s'est largement consacré à l'étude des processus de fabrication et à l'optimisation des procédés chimiques. Ses recherches ont porté principalement sur la production de chlore et de soude, des éléments essentiels pour différentes industries, notamment la production de papier, le traitement des eaux et la fabrication de produits chimiques. En 1892, Leblanc a inventé le procédé qui porte aujourd'hui son nom : le procédé Leblanc. Ce procédé révolutionnaire consiste en la transformation du sel marin en soude caustique et en chlore par une série de réactions chimiques complexes. Son invention a permis de résoudre les problèmes de production et de disponibilité de la soude et du chlore, qui étaient jusqu'alors difficilement accessibles et coûteux à produire. Le procédé Leblanc a révolutionné l'industrie chimique en France et dans le monde entier, ouvrant la voie à de nouvelles applications et à une augmentation de la production industrielle. En reconnaissance de ses contributions significatives dans le domaine de la chimie, Leblanc a été élu membre de nombreuses académies scientifiques en France et à l'étranger. Il a également reçu de nombreuses récompenses prestigieuses, dont la médaille Davy de la Royal Society à Londres. César Nicolas Louis Leblanc est décédé le 16 novembre 1936, laissant un héritage scientifique considérable. Son procédé continue d'être utilisé de nos jours, bien que de nouvelles méthodes aient été développées pour répondre à des problématiques environnementales.
