Charles Du Bos, écrivain et critique littéraire français, est né le 27 octobre 1882 à Paris. Issu d'une famille bourgeoise, il développe dès son plus jeune âge une passion pour la littérature. Après des études brillantes, il intègre l'École normale supérieure en 1902, où il se lie d'amitié avec des écrivains tels que André Gide et Paul Valéry. En 1906, Du Bos obtient l'agrégation de lettres et devient professeur de littérature française dans différentes institutions parisiennes. Son enseignement lui permet de forger sa pensée critique et d'approfondir sa connaissance des œuvres littéraires. Sa carrière de critique littéraire s'épanouit à partir des années 1920. Il collabore régulièrement à des revues littéraires renommées, telles que "La Nouvelle Revue française" et "Les Cahiers du Sud". Toujours soucieux de la langue et de la forme, Du Bos impose une rigueur analytique dans ses critiques et se montre attentif aux évolutions de la création littéraire de son époque. En parallèle de ses activités de critique, Charles Du Bos publie également des essais et des ouvrages théoriques. On lui doit notamment "Critique du roman", paru en 1923, où il propose une réflexion approfondie sur ce genre littéraire. Son ouvrage "Journal d'un intellectuel en chômage", publié en 1934, témoigne quant à lui de l'engagement politique et social de Du Bos, qui s'interroge sur les limites de l'intellectualité face à la montée des régimes autoritaires en Europe. Durant la Seconde Guerre mondiale, Charles Du Bos est contraint de fuir Paris et se réfugie dans le Midi de la France. Il continue néanmoins à écrire et à publier dans des revues clandestines. Après la guerre, il reprend son rôle de critique littéraire et poursuit sa réflexion sur la création artistique. Charles Du Bos meurt le 5 août 1939 à La Ciotat, laissant derrière lui une œuvre considérable. Son style érudit et exigeant, ainsi que sa capacité à analyser en profondeur les œuvres littéraires, ont marqué de nombreux écrivains et critiques de sa génération. Il est aujourd'hui considéré comme l'une des figures majeures de la critique littéraire du XXe siècle en France.
