Charles-François Lebrun est une figure célèbre de l'histoire française du XVIIIe siècle. Né le 19 mars 1739 à Saint-Sauveur-Lendelin, en Normandie, Lebrun a connu une ascension fulgurante dans la politique et a joué un rôle central dans les événements qui ont secoué la France à l'époque de la Révolution. Il est issu d'une famille modeste, mais sa brillante intelligence et son dévouement lui ont permis de se hisser dans les hautes sphères du pouvoir. Lebrun a d'abord poursuivi des études de droit avant de se faire remarquer par ses compétences en tant qu'avocat. L'année 1789 marque un tournant décisif dans la vie de Lebrun. La Révolution française éclate, entraînant une profonde transformation sociale et politique dans le pays. C'est à partir de cette période que Lebrun commence à s'impliquer activement dans les affaires politiques, participant à la rédaction de nombreux textes législatifs. En tant que membre de l'Assemblée constituante de 1789, Lebrun joue un rôle essentiel dans la mise en place des nouvelles institutions républicaines. Son talent et son dévouement ne passent pas inaperçus, et en 1800, il est nommé consul de la République française aux côtés de Napoléon Bonaparte et Jean-Jacques-Régis de Cambacérès. Ces trois hommes forment le célèbre trio « Consulat ». Lebrun est reconnu pour son intégrité et ses capacités de négociation. En tant que consul, il participe à l'élaboration du Code civil, connu plus tard sous le nom de Code Napoléon, qui reste un pilier du système juridique français actuel. En 1804, Lebrun est nommé prince-architrésorier de l'Empire, un titre prestigieux qui le place au cœur des affaires financières de l'État. Son rôle est essentiel dans le financement des campagnes militaires de Napoléon, ainsi que dans la gestion des finances publiques. Malgré ses nombreuses responsabilités, Lebrun tente également de promouvoir des réformes sociales, notamment dans le domaine de l'éducation et de la santé. Lorsque l'Empire s'effondre en 1814, Lebrun se retire de la vie politique et se retire dans sa terre natale en Normandie. Il sera néanmoins rappelé en 1815 lors des Cent-Jours, mais sa carrière politique est désormais derrière lui. Charles-François Lebrun s'éteint le 16 juin 1824 à Sainte-Mesme, laissant derrière lui un héritage indéniable dans l'histoire de la France. Son talent politique, son dévouement envers la République et son rôle crucial dans l'élaboration du Code civil font de lui une figure incontournable de son époque.
