Charles V de France, également connu sous le nom de Charles le Sage, est né le 21 janvier 1338 à Vincennes. Fils du roi Jean II de France et de son épouse Bonne de Luxembourg, il est devenu roi à l'âge de 12 ans, à la mort de son père en 1350. Son règne a été marqué par des défis importants, notamment la guerre de Cent Ans et la peste noire. Dès le début de son règne, Charles V a montré une grande intelligence et une grande ambition politique. Ce mécénat des arts a permis de faire rayonner la culture française et de contribuer au développement de la Renaissance. Sur le plan militaire, Charles V a réussi à inverser la tendance de la guerre de Cent Ans en faveur de la France. Il a consolidé les territoires français et a mené une politique de diplomatie habile pour isoler l'Angleterre. Il a également prêté une attention particulière à l'économie du pays, en relançant notamment l'agriculture et le commerce. Cette politique a permis de restaurer la prospérité du royaume, après les ravages causés par la peste noire. Charles V est mort le 16 septembre 1380 à Beauté-sur-Marne, à l'âge de 42 ans. Son règne, bien qu'assez court, a marqué un tournant dans l'histoire de la France. Il a réussi à renforcer le pouvoir royal, à restaurer l'économie et à poser les bases du développement culturel du pays. Son surnom de Charles le Sage est légitime, car il a su faire preuve d'une grande intelligence politique et d'une grande sagesse dans la gestion des affaires de l'État.
