Claude de Lorraine, également connu sous le nom de Claude de Guise, est une célébrité qui a marqué l'histoire de la France à la Renaissance. Né le 20 octobre 1496 à Condé-sur-Moselle, il est le deuxième fils de René II, duc de Lorraine, et de Philippine de Gueldre. Il est issu d'une puissante famille aristocratique et a grandi dans un contexte politique troublé, marqué par les conflits entre les grands seigneurs et la monarchie française. Malgré son jeune âge, Claude de Lorraine se révèle rapidement être un homme d'une grande fidélité et d'une loyauté sans faille envers sa famille et sa maison. À l'âge de 16 ans, il participe à la bataille de Marignan aux côtés de François Ier, roi de France. Sa bravoure et ses talents militaires lui valent rapidement une reconnaissance importante, et il devient un homme de confiance du roi. En 1513, Claude de Lorraine épouse Antoinette de Bourbon, fille de François Ier et de Claude de France. Ce mariage scelle une alliance solide entre la maison de Lorraine et la famille royale française. De leur union naissent dix enfants, dont François de Lorraine, futur duc de Guise. Claude de Lorraine est également un grand mécène des arts et des lettres. Il soutient de nombreux artistes et écrivains de son époque, contribuant à l'essor de la culture française. Il fait également construire de nombreux châteaux somptueux, dont le château de Joinville, qui devient sa résidence principale. En 1525, Claude de Lorraine est fait prisonnier lors de la bataille de Pavie. Il demeure captif jusqu'à la signature du traité de Madrid en 1526, où il est libéré en échange de la promesse de son fils, François de Lorraine, de servir l'empereur Charles Quint. Cette épreuve renforce sa détermination et son engagement envers sa famille et son pays. Après sa libération, Claude de Lorraine retourne en Lorraine et continue de défendre les intérêts de sa maison. En 1536, il est nommé lieutenant général du royaume de France, un poste prestigieux qui témoigne de la confiance que lui accorde François Ier. Il participe à de nombreuses campagnes militaires et contribue ainsi à renforcer la position de la Lorraine dans le paysage politique français. Claude de Lorraine décède le 12 avril 1550 à Joinville, laissant derrière lui un héritage riche et complexe. Doté d'un sens aigu de l'honneur et du devoir, il a marqué son époque par sa loyauté envers sa famille et son pays, ainsi que par son engagement dans les affaires politiques et militaires de la France. Claude de Lorraine reste une figure emblématique de la Renaissance française.
