Claude Mauriac, de son nom complet Claude Mauriac-Moreau, était un écrivain et critique littéraire français de renom. Né le 25 avril 1914 à Paris, il était le fils de l'écrivain François Mauriac, lauréat du Prix Nobel de littérature en 1952. La plume de Claude Mauriac ne pouvait que se nourrir de cette filiation littéraire, et il se révéla être un auteur talentueux à part entière. Après des études de droits, Claude Mauriac se tourna vers le journalisme et débuta sa carrière en tant que critique littéraire pour différents journaux, dont "Le Figaro" et "L'Express". Son style d'écriture était incisif et percutant, et ses articles étaient très attendus dans le milieu littéraire français. Grâce à ses talents de critique, il parvint à se faire un nom dans le domaine et à se constituer un véritable lectorat fidèle. Mais Claude Mauriac ne se limita pas seulement à la critique littéraire. Il écrivit également plusieurs romans, dont "Le Dîner en ville" en 1959, qui fut un succès critique et lui valut d'être comparé aux grands noms de la littérature française de l'époque. Son roman suivant "Un adolescent d'autrefois", publié en 1969, lui confirma sa place parmi les auteurs incontournables de la scène littéraire française. Au fil des années, Claude Mauriac devint une figure emblématique de la vie culturelle parisienne. Il fut membre de l'Académie française à partir de 1968 et contribua à la promotion de la langue française en tant que président de la Société des Gens de Lettres. Outre ses activités littéraires, Claude Mauriac était également un homme engagé politiquement. Il participa activement à la campagne électorale de François Mitterrand en 1981, et fut un fervent défenseur des valeurs de la gauche française. Son engagement politique se retrouve également dans ses écrits, où il critiqua certaines politiques menées par la droite au pouvoir. Claude Mauriac décéda le 22 mars 1996 à Paris, laissant derrière lui une œuvre littéraire riche et variée. Son style critique et son engagement politique en firent une personnalité influente de la scène culturelle française, et son héritage perdure encore aujourd'hui.
