Condillac's most famous work, "An Essay on Human Understanding," published in 1754, brought him recognition and acclaim. In this book, he challenged the prevalent Cartesian notion of innate ideas, arguing that all knowledge derived from sensory experiences. He emphasized the importance of language and perception in shaping human understanding, paving the way for the development of the field of psychology. Continuing his exploration of the role of perception, Condillac published another influential work, "Traité des sensations," in 1754. In this piece, he proposed a theory of sensory knowledge, asserting that all ideas and concepts are derived from sensual experiences. He argued that sensory information is crucial in constructing mental representations and understanding the world around us. Condillac's ideas greatly influenced the fields of epistemology and psychology, and he was considered a pioneer of empirical philosophy.
