Returning to France in 1926, Joliot-Curie began his collaboration with his wife, Irène Curie, also a talented physicist and daughter of Marie and Pierre Curie. Together, they delved into the newly emerging field of nuclear physics and made significant contributions to the understanding of atomic structure and the nature of radiation. In 1934, the couple made a groundbreaking discovery, successfully producing artificial radioactivity by bombarding aluminum with α particles. This marked a pivotal moment in scientific history, as it laid the foundation for the field of nuclear chemistry. Driven by their passion for research, Joliot-Curie and his wife embarked on further experiments, which demonstrated the possibility of producing new isotopes through nuclear reactions. Their achievements earned them worldwide recognition, and in 1935, they were jointly awarded the Nobel Prize in Chemistry. This honor made Joliot-Curie the second member of his family to receive a Nobel Prize, following in the footsteps of his parents.
