Gerald Gardner was an English civil servant, writer, and occultist, born on June 13, 1884, in Blundellsands, Lancashire, England. He is known as the "Father of Modern Witchcraft" for his role in reviving and popularizing Wicca, a modern pagan religion influenced by pre-Christian beliefs and practices. Gardner served in the British civil service in Asia and Africa before retiring to England in the 1930s. He became interested in the occult and joined the Rosicrucian Order in the late 1930s, before eventually becoming involved in witchcraft and forming his own coven in the 1950s. Gardner published several books on witchcraft, including "Witchcraft Today" and "The Meaning of Witchcraft," which helped spread the popularity of Wicca in the mid-20th century. He also played a key role in the repeal of the Witchcraft Acts in England and was a prominent figure in the growing witchcraft movement in the 1950s and 1960s. Gardner passed away on February 12, 1964, leaving behind a legacy as one of the most influential figures in the modern witchcraft movement.
