H. David Politzer is an American theoretical physicist who was born on August 31, 1949, in New York City. He is best known for being awarded the Nobel Prize in Physics in 2004, along with David Gross and Frank Wilczek, for their discovery of asymptotic freedom in the theory of the strong interaction. Politzer earned his Ph.D. in physics from Harvard University in 1974 and has since held teaching positions at the University of California, Berkeley, and the California Institute of Technology. He has made significant contributions to the field of particle physics, particularly in the area of quantum chromodynamics. Politzer has also been recognized with numerous other awards and honors for his groundbreaking research, including the J. J. Sakurai Prize for Theoretical Particle Physics in 1989.
