Additionally, Arbuthnot turned to writing satirical works, often critiquing the political and social climate of his time. His most celebrated satire, "The History of John Bull," published in 1712, lampooned the War of the Spanish Succession and the ineptitude of the British government. During his career, Arbuthnot collaborated with numerous influential figures, such as Jonathan Swift and Alexander Pope, in producing various satirical and literary works. He played a significant role in the Scriblerus Club, a group of intellectuals that aimed to raise intellectual and social standards through satire and wit. Arbuthnot's contributions to the field of medicine and his satirical writings helped establish him as a respected and influential figure in both scientific and literary circles. However, Arbuthnot's success and productivity were limited by his declining health. He suffered from severe asthma and other ailments that hindered his ability to continue his medical practice and writing. John Arbuthnot passed away on February 27, 1735, leaving behind a legacy of medical achievements, wit, and satirical brilliance that continues to inspire and entertain to this day.
