John Densmore is an American musician, songwriter, and author, best known as the drummer for the iconic rock band, The Doors. He was born on December 1, 1944, in Los Angeles, California. Densmore developed a deep love for music at a young age and was inspired by jazz drummers such as Elvin Jones and Gene Krupa. He began playing drums during his high school years and soon joined a local band called The Psychedelic Rangers. In 1965, Densmore's path crossed with Jim Morrison, Ray Manzarek, and Robby Krieger, forming The Doors. He strongly opposed the commercialization of The Doors' music and fought against the band's licencing of their songs for commercial advertisements. After The Doors disbanded in 1973 following Morrison's death, Densmore delved into other projects. He collaborated with artists such as Philip Glass and Jerry Lee Lewis and pursued a solo career while also immersing himself in the world of literature. In 1990, he published his memoir, "Riders on the Storm: My Life with Jim Morrison and the Doors," which delved into his experiences within the band and his relationship with Morrison. Densmore's influence and contribution to music were recognized when The Doors were inducted into the Rock and Roll Hall of Fame in 1993.
