Louis François Armand de Vignerot du Plessis (1696–1788) was a French military officer and diplomat who served as the Minister of Foreign Affairs under King Louis XV. Born into a noble family, du Plessis rose through the ranks of the military, becoming a brigadier general in 1734 and a lieutenant general in 1737. He was known for his leadership abilities and strategic thinking, earning a reputation as a skilled military commander. In addition to his military career, du Plessis also held several diplomatic posts, negotiating treaties and alliances on behalf of France. His most notable diplomatic achievement was the Treaty of Aix-la-Chapelle in 1748, which ended the War of the Austrian Succession. Du Plessis was later appointed Minister of War and then Minister of Foreign Affairs, where he continued to play a key role in shaping French foreign policy. Throughout his career, du Plessis was known for his loyalty to the crown and his commitment to serving the interests of France. He retired from public life in 1771 and died in 1788 at the age of 92.
