Luis Fernando Suarez is a Colombian former professional soccer player and current coach. Born on December 23, 1959, in Santa Marta, Colombia, Suarez had a successful playing career as a defender for various clubs in his home country as well as in the United States. He is most known for his time with Atletico Junior in Colombia during the 1980s. After retiring as a player, Suarez transitioned into coaching and has managed several national teams, including Ecuador, Honduras, and most notably, the Colombian national team. Suarez led Ecuador to their first-ever FIFA World Cup in 2006 and also guided Honduras to the 2014 World Cup in Brazil. However, his most successful stint came with Colombia, where he helped the team qualify for the World Cup in 2014 and led them to a quarter-final finish, their best performance in the tournament's history. Suarez is recognized for his tactical acumen and ability to develop young talent, making him a respected figure in soccer coaching circles.
