Born on February 21, 1964, in West Orange, New Jersey, Kelly's fascination with space began at a young age. After graduating from high school, he enrolled at the United States Merchant Marine Academy, where he earned a Bachelor of Science degree in marine engineering and nautical science. However, Kelly's personal life faced an unimaginable challenge in 2011 when his wife, Gabrielle Giffords, then a U.S. Representative, was targeted in a shooting. This tragic event further ignited his dedication to make a positive difference in the world. In 2013, he retired from NASA and began focusing on his advocacy work and promoting gun control measures. In 2015, Kelly embarked on an astonishing new journey, as he announced his candidacy for the U.S. Senate, aiming to represent Arizona. Throughout his campaign, he emphasized his commitment to scientific innovation, climate change, affordable healthcare, and veterans' issues. In November 2020, Kelly emerged victorious, becoming the United States Senator from Arizona.
