Jean-François Meirhaeghe is a Belgian former professional mountain biker born on October 8, 1971. He had a successful career, winning numerous races and titles, including the UCI Mountain Bike World Cup in 1994 and the UCI Mountain Bike World Championships in 2002. Meirhaeghe was known for his technical skills and endurance on the bike, which helped him achieve great success in the sport. However, his career was marred by a doping controversy in 2004 when he tested positive for EPO during the Olympic Games in Athens. He was subsequently banned from competition for two years. Despite this setback, Meirhaeghe continued to race after serving his suspension but eventually retired from professional mountain biking in 2006.
