He continued to preach and baptize until his martyrdom in the year 44 AD. King Herod Agrippa I ordered his execution by sword, making Jacques the first apostle to be martyred for his faith. Through the centuries, Saint Jacques de Zebedee has been revered as a powerful intercessor and patron saint for pilgrims, Spain, laborers, and equestrians. His Feast Day is celebrated on July 25th, known as the Feast of Saint James and is marked by vibrant festivities, particularly in Santiago de Compostela, the burial place of the saint and a renowned pilgrimage site for Christians worldwide.
