Stephen Malkmus is an American musician and songwriter, best known as the lead vocalist and guitarist for the indie rock band Pavement. He was born on May 30, 1966 in Santa Monica, California. After studying history at the University of Virginia, Malkmus moved to New York City where he formed Pavement in 1989.
