Zdravko Tolimir gained fame as a Bosnian Serb military officer during the Yugoslav Wars of the 1990s. He served in the Bosnian Serb Army and later became a high-ranking general in the Army of Republika Srpska. Tolimir was known for his role in the Srebrenica massacre in July 1995, where over 8,000 Bosnian Muslim men and boys were killed by Bosnian Serb forces. He was indicted by the International Criminal Tribunal for the former Yugoslavia (ICTY) for his involvement in the massacre and other war crimes, including genocide, and was eventually captured in 2007. Tolimir's trial at the ICTY received international attention and his conviction in 2012 further solidified his notoriety for his role in the atrocities committed during the Yugoslav Wars.
